Pretty pictures

August 2nd, 2008 by

First, here is a cute fanart comic of Captain Hammer fighting Captain Tightpants.  I wonder when we will see a Captain Hammerpants?

And here is the twentieth anniversary of Sandman (Neil Gaiman version) poster that debuted at comic con last week

33 artists from the comic’s run contributed.  Geek pop quiz!  Can you identify by name all the characters shown? Bonus points for identifying the artist.  The prize?  Pride in a well trained memory.

Poster legend after the jump

I was able to name all the characters but just barely recognized Titania, and only identified correctly Sam Keith, Charles Vess, and Jill Thompson as the artists.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane. 🙂 I wish that the enlarged version of the Sandman characters poster and key could have been a little larger; some characters are difficult to see (good luck telling Remiel from Duma) at the given scale. (Maybe data storage limits were a consideration). Got all the characters except Cluracan right. Never liked the “hairy bear” rendering of Destruction, though. Not even sure that Cluracan was as important as Nada, Loki or Jed Walker, or even Richard Maddoc and Brant, the guy from the safehouse – I would rank him more with the Fashion Thing, Emperor Norton and Nathan the fat serial killer, tbh. Just my own opinions, though. Like I said, though, interesting and fun to see all these characters again.
